Promoting Vedic Sciences- Mohan Shakti Park India

Can वेद Vedas - the ancient body of knowledge- attract tourists?

Is there a monument or a park dedicated to promote Vedic Science?

Vedas and science- how does it sync?

Well, we are no authority on Vedas or vedic science. But we recently visited a Park dedicated to promote vedic sciences. Readers may refer Govt of India website to read up about Vedic Heritage.

Set up on a 40 acre sprawling hill side on right bank of river Aasan near Solan Shimla, it is a unique monument. It is located 80 kms northeast of Chandigarh and takes 2-1/2 hours by car in a hilly road. See the map below.

Created by Brig Kapil Mohan of famed Mohan Meakin Breweries, it was inaugurated by then PM of India in 2002. Mohan Shakti National Heritage Park, that's the full name, attracts close to 15 lakh visitors every year. The monument is made of sculpted stones of various hardness such as the red sandstone, marble, granite and so on. The main entrance of the imposing building adorns the seven-horse chariot of the Sun God. The monument shows the importance of various trees and seasons for mankind's existence. Here are a few pictures of the Heritage Park which harnesses solar power. Other than a small cafe, there are no shops. A place well maintained without noise and pollution.

See the video clip below which shows some of the trees native to India as sculpted in red sandstone around the Park. If the video doesn't show up, you may click the link here to view it.

We had based the 44th edition of our online travel contest Kaun Banega Ghumakkad on Mohan Shakti Heritage Park. KBG-44 had featured the following picture and few clues. Contest announcement is also shown below.

Almost 300 readers participated in KBG-44 out of which 10 readers gave correct answers. The first correct answer came in a few minutes by Anshu Bhargava. But since she has won the KBG contest many times, she consented to forego her award for those who answered next. Thanks Anshu for your magnanimity.

Congratulations to all the three winners profiled below.

  1. Deepak K Jena, PGDM (Marketing) an entrepreneur located at Brahmapur, Odisha. Keen traveller. Has won the KBG contest several times.
  2. Dhiraj S Rawat, Formerly with the Indian Army. As Admin Officer at a B-School in Hyderabad, he inculcates a sense of punctuality and discipline in the PG students. Interested in Nature.
  3. Jaishankar, Col in Indian Army. Hiker, Nature enthusiast, blogger and keen traveller. Has won the KBG contest earlier too.

Special thanks go to my course mate Commodore Vijay Bal, a Navy Veteran who had organised our visit to the Heritage Park. Vijay is third from the left in the picture below.

We hope we have helped you with some virtual travel during the pandemic lockdown. We will bring you some more interesting destinations shortly- both from India and overseas.

Stay connected.
