Celebrating Diwali with the Birds

A diwali when you can't step out of the house.

A diwali when others can't visit you.

A diwali when you can't travel.

How to beat such strict boredom?

Celebrate the diwali with the birds. Birds not in the cages or zoo enclosures, but in their natural habitat!

Ghumakkad is fortunate to live close to a lake which is devoid of human activity in the mornings. So along with an experienced birder Yella Prakash Rao, we both decided to celebrate the day after Diwali with our winged friends

Most of the resident birds were there including the Glossy Ibis, Cormorants, Spot Billed Ducks, Cattle Egrets, Coots, Pond Herons, Lapwings, Bulbuls and Little Grebes. Winter visitors like Northern Shovellers had just started to arrive. Smaller visitors like Blyth's Reed Warbler were also sighted.

Sharing the pictures of our celebration with the birds. The pictures have the message from the bird as a caption. Each of the birds has some message or the other on how to deal with the pandemic. The birds seem to be following the social distancing more than the human beings! Enjoy the picture story in full screen.

Where is Yapral lake? It is in Secunderabad in Telangana State, India. See the map below.

We end with a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson. See the PQ- picturesque quote below.

Therefore folks, remain spirited. Pandemic too shall pass.
