Manas National Park- Where to Stay

Musa Jungle Retreat.
That was our home during our visit to Manas National Park in Assam.
Located close to the Park, it is an eco-friendly resort with lot of greenery and few geese also!

Here is the complete set of stories of our visit to Assam and Manas National Park. We were a team of 20 Navy veterans and spouses all in their late 60s. This set of stories should be read together. Quick links are given below:
  1. Who were the travellers?
  2. Guwahati the Gateway to North East India
  3. Driving through the Bamboo land
  4. MNP- When a Safari Vehicle Breaks Down!
  5. MNP- Where crickets sing like Temple Bells
  6. Bodo Village- Living with Nature
  7. Where to Stay in Manas
  8. Deepor Beel A Ramsar Site
Here is a photo-walk around the Retreat including few video clips. Let the pictures do the talking.
The Retreat has been built using local materials. You can see the roof of main lounge built using bamboo in the picture below.

With spacious lawns, the Retreat is ideal for evening functions during Reunions.

Since the Retreat is located adjacent to Manas National Park, the fencing had to be electrified to keep the animals away. See the pictures below with Indian ingenuity to provide electric insulation on existing iron pillars!

A wooden carving made from a single bark of a tree depicts all the animals found in Manas National Park. See the clip below.

Residents geese at the Retreat!

Here is a short video clip of Bodo Tribal Dance performed exclusively for Navy Veterans in Assam.

Our Reunion could happen only because of 'Dada' Animesh. See what his course-mates from the Navy and their spouses had to say in the video clip below.

Hope you agree that you are never too old to party or to drink or to dance! Haven't these Navy Veterans shown how to remain young?

World Dance Day 2018

"Dance is not just a five letter word, it has a whole lot of feeling and meaning attached to it. It gives a tinge of happiness which has no boundary, it is and will always be the best form of expressing love, happiness and celebrations". We couldn't agree more with Sharmi Banerjee a classical dancer now pursuing a management degree. Sharmi goes on to add "Dance creates magic and fills the whole atmosphere with joy".

World Dance Day 2018 is here. We share some pictures along with the variety of dance forms which exist in India. Credit for compiling the data goes to Sharmi Banerjee.

India has a few distinct classical dance forms. Most of the classical dance forms have originated from temples, so they express the dance form in terms of worshipping. Though they have different names and the state of origin are different, but the roots can be traced from ‘Natya Shastra’ नाट्य शास्त्र.
There are several dance forms all over the world. In India every state has its own folk form. There are around 8 to 11 classical dance forms.

NOTE

Sources differ in their list of Indian classical dance forms. Encyclopædia Britannica mentions six dances. The Sangeet Natak Akademi has given recognition to eight Indian dances. The Indian government's Ministry of Culture includes eleven dance forms. Scholars such as Drid Williams and others include Chhau, Yaksagana and Bhagavata Mela to the eight classical Indian dances in the Sangeet Natak Akademi list.

Few pictures of Indian classical dance forms taken by Ghumakkad with a quotation each are reproduced below:

In India, wedding time is dancing time. Few pictures depicting the joy and fervour when old and young alike take to the floor!

Younger generation loves dancing. Whether it is college functions or friends birthdays, everybody shakes a leg or two.

Dance transcends physical barriers. See the picture below where persons with disabilities performed on stage!

Dance brings people together. There are many mother-daughter duos as well as married couples who love dancing together. Two such pictures below:

Don't you agree with what Sharmi says "Dance – is a way to find yourself and lose yourself, all at the same time".
