I have been to Bengaluru a number of times, the first visit being in 1971 for my SSB Interview for joining the Indian Navy. Since then, numerous visits to the growing megapolis have taken place. But one landmark which has retained its charm is Lalbagh aka Lalbagh Botanical Garden.
This morning, courtesy my nephew Ashwin, his wife Swati and their eight-year-old son Kabir, we spent an hour and a half in Lalbagh. Set up in 1870, the garden is the real lung of the city. Sharing few pictures shot during the walk.

A walk around Lalbagh is incomplete without a bite at SLV in Banashankari. King size Idlis which are extremely soft and equally large size Vadas which are crisp and yummy are a delight. Eaten with only one type of coconut chutney, it is a real treat. Some more pictures follow.

Dear Harsh. LalBagh is a superb Garden in 90s & MTR opposite to it was our goto . Understand a Tunnel Road is coming up near this. Ofcourse Cubbon Park has slowly gone down. . But DRDO area has a good lake garden coming up

Deletel remember going to Lalbagh and Cubbon Park , even Ulsoor lake for family picnics with the extended family in my grandmom's days , with packed snacks and lunches in picnic baskets !

DeleteRemember of our stay at Banglore during 1975 when it was having clean environment. We used to have morning walk in lal baug now and then and picnic. Your pictures and essay made it more beautiful.

DeleteThanks so much for the beautiful pictures of Lal Bagh.I too have very fond memories. First visited with class mates of Class 6 in 1956 when studying in St Joseph's High School, Bangalore. Developed love of garden and trees since then.
ReplyDeleteIn my last visit,procured two bagful of exotic plants for bonsai from few nurseries located nearby.
Dare say,Lal Bagh looks more beautiful and the trees have grown huge and cynosure for bonsai enthusiasts.
